Reflections of Kindertransport

Well guys, what a show. I am extremely proud of this cast and crew for their attitudes and efforts during the run of Kindertransport. The show was a hard one and I want you all to know that I am very pleased with the outcome. It was different, it was hard, it was heavy, and to me, it was moving. I hope that the experience for you was a good one but it is time to put it to bed.

This will probably be an ongoing post (as I want to touch on all of your efforts) but I will start with the underclassman cast and go up.

Samantha: Wow. Eva finally arrived. It only took right up to show but I knew that you would deliver. There were moments that I thought you would never "get" it, but once you stopped thinking about the role so much and just let it happen, there were moments were you truly were magical. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to "Eva".

Morgan: The right decision. It sometimes takes a person three auditions to get a part. I pat myself on the back for that one, (although Abby and Liz did have some influence.) I was so happy for you to get recognized at GTC. That was a first for the Players to compete at that level and it makes us all proud that you received that medal. We just all hope that you find it. Thank you.

Gray: Sometimes you see somebody in the hall and think, "That kid has what I am looking for." You definitely became the Ratcatcher and I appreciate you being such a great sport with the hair and makeup. I hope that you had a good time and will continue to work with the players.

Dylan: I am very pleased with your work as the Nazi. I was worried at first and I really did not give you a lot of direction. You took what I did give and you made the part yours. What I am most pleased with is that you showed me that you can do character and I may have some plans for that. We will see. Get in shape for wrestling, and don't suck! I am sure that you will have quite the cheer section with this crew.

Julia: Thank you for your hard work on this role. Helga was a stretch for you but you worked hard and you pulled it off beautifully. I am sorry that it took so long to get your costume. I know that had to suck.

Antuan: Thanks for being such a good sport about getting your part cut. If you remember, it was you that was first cast as the Ratcatcher. I had another idea but decided against it. I am pleased with your work in the show and your presence in class as well. I wish that you could have gotten involved with us sooner.

Elizabeth: Wow. (beat, beat) Wow. I am so pleased with your performance in Kindertransport. I know that I did not give you much direction during the rehearsal process but it seems that you had a very clear vision of what Evelyn was and how I wanted her portrayed. I think that you got robbed at GTC for not being recognized. We should have had three in the All Star cast! You bring such a great attitude to everything we do and I thank you for that. Thank you too for liking the show from the beginning. It takes some actors a while to catch on to the literary value of the pieces I choose.

Abby: This show really show off how versatile of an actor you are. What was most impressive was watching you grow into Lil. It was an effort that I actually felt like I coached you through. You really did not need much help from me in the past with other parts. It was a real treat to watch you get better and better with the character as the rehearsals progressed. A lot of people were surprised at GTC that you did not win the top prize. (Best Actress) Lil gave you a new realm of looking at movement and voice and it was this avenue that I wanted you to go down to grow as an actor. This will be important for you in future shows. Thanks so much for your effort.

Bethany: I had been waiting a long time for a voice like yours in that theater. I had not had it in a long time. The kids responded to you and you knew the script better than anyone involved; even me, but that was not to hard. You really executed what I wanted very well and it showed. It was a difficult show to do and you really demonstrated a peer leadership that has gone unprecedented until now. You allowed me to vent and assisted me when I needed you to be on top of things. Thanks so much.
