The WHS Patriot Players will be competing in the SETC One-Act Festival at Georgia Theatre Conference October 16-18 at Darton College in Albany Georgia with their competition piece, KINDERTRANSPORT!. We have a lot to do guys with a short schedule and a new "baby" patriot player on the way. We will probably alter the show tomorrow to fit our needs. This will take time, as we will probably not get it right the first time.
I went ahead and registered the following people but you will have to in and PAY for yourselves some other time. Abby, Liz, Dylan, Antuan, Morgan, Sam, Julia, Bethany, Page, and Kendall. This is the cast, who has to go, Page, who went last year, and Kendall who went the past two years. We will talk more about this on Tuesday.
For those of you that have not been, this is the real deal. This competition is to represent Georgia at the SETC convention. Time to bring our A-game.

"I'll bloody kill you first!"
Following what Co'Hill said..
To Morgan, Sam, and Aantuaan: I'm so glad that you are now part of the Patriot Players. It's not just a club for me, it's a family *as cliche as that sounds. I've been with it since my freshman year and I would never trade our family for anything in the world. Is it stressful? YES. Is it fun? YES. Is Hill obnoxious? (..get the pattern yet?) I introduce it this way to say.. I don't think I could ever express how much it means to me. And now how much you guys mean to me. You're now part of the family.. honor it, love it, embrace it. 'Cause believe me we'll love you, embrace you, and possibly touch you. (..yeah. you're in theatre now.. :] get used to it) Also, welcome to the world of Hill. He likes to post strange pictures of people on public websites and things like that. But, trust him. I GUESS he's pretty good at what he does.
The show..
I'm too excited. When I heard that we were doing a show about the Holocaust, I was honestly not thrilled. BUT.. the way the cast read it this afternoon made the words and the story jump off the page, no joke. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. If the script made this much of an impact on us the first read through, I can't wait to see what effect it's going to have at competition *but, not necessarily at Westover performances.. you know what I mean. Again, too excited.
My girls..
Yeah, I'm calling you (Samantha, Julia, Lizz, Morgan) my girls now. Why? I'm not a "mushy" person.. I don't know if that makes sense. Anyways, the show is centered around the female relationships, mother-daughter bonds. I don't know you all that well, and I am really interested in "bonding" with you. I know it's acting, but some things can't be forced. Especially because I consider myself a method actor, I need to feel, understand, and research what I am portraying. As stupid as bonding with each other sounds, I would really like to spend some time with you. Anyone up for it? Hill - what do you think?
I guess what I'm trying to express is my passion for this show. It's my senior competition show and I want to really go out with a bang. If any show or cast can allow me to do that, I'm glad it's the Westover Patriot Players' 2008 Competition piece, Kindertransport.
(How's that for cheese?)

In the Club
Before, or after the read through for that matter, I failed to welcome Antuan, Morgan, and Samantha into the Patriot Players. There are three levels of "the club". You can take Drama, pretty much anyone can do that now it seems, you can be cast in a show, which makes you a Patriot Player, and you can achieve enough points to become a member of International Thespian Society Cast 7267. Being cast or involved in a show is what puts you in "the club".
Over the years, thanks to Justin and Ramona, the Patriot Players have developed a "cliqueish" reputation. O well. It is good to see you guys taking pride and ownership in our company. That is what we are; a company of actors whose mission is to bring the craft of theater to the students and faculty of Westover High School, and to the members of this community. And, most importantly, win championships. So, I say welcome.
O'yeah, we need to have some ideas for the Homecoming Float on tomorrow.

Morgan Smith as Faith/Schedule
Congrats to Morgan Smith for achieving the role of Faith. It is not uncommon to have three auditions to get a role. I remember it took me four shots to get Huck Finn in Big River years ago. Anyway, good job.
I will have a tentative schedule for the next few weeks hopefully tomorrow, Sunday at the latest, buy I did want to go ahead and post the rest of the week.
Thurs: Read Through at Starbucks 4:30 to 6:30
Sun: I would like to meet Sunday from 3 to 430. (This means leave at 430 sharp!)
Monday: Labor Day 10 AM-12 PM (You don't have class)
Tuesday: 4:30 to 6:30
Bethany, I need you to pick up 9 one inch hard back three ring binders.....if you have the time. And, if you have the cash. I will have it to give back to you whenever.
For you method actors out there, start doing some research.
Time to go work guys.

Callbacks for Kindertransport
Thank you to all who auditioned today. There were 38 people who auditioned and it has been difficult to narrow it down to 18. I will say that several did notmake the list due to conflicts and other commitments. Keep in mind, I have to cut it again, down to 7. (may add a second male role)
The following students will read new pieces tomorrow, much harder pieces to determine the cast of Kindertransport. The scenes will be much more emotional and both kinds of accent will need to be heard; both British and German. (Mr. Burton will walk you through it.) Girls, please have your hair pulled back some kind of way. I need to be able to see your faces. So, in no particular order:
Dylan Snapp
Darlene Walters
Julia Darnell
Cartonia Chatman
Abby Blankenship
Tia Hennington
Morgan Smith
Page Walker
Crystal Gervin
Antuan Russell
Victoria Ross
Abigail Barlow
Samantha Garrett
Mashari ?
Cody ?
Elizabeth Gaines
Carrie Watts
Bethany Carver

Update
Ok......so.......here's the deal. I am sort of a night owl sooooooooooo, it is going to be a little longer before callbacks are announced. IT WILL BE POSTED TONIGHT. That much I can say for now. But anyway, here is the rundown of how this is going to work. On the next post, the names listed will need to meet in Mr. Burton's room tomorrow at 4:30. He will give a crash course in German, or how we can get by atleast. I PLAN to post a cast sheet on Wednesday and have a read through at Starbucks on Thursday afternoon, 415ish. For you new folks, a read through is where we sit down and read the play together for the first time.
The bad news: Guys, theater is a cruel world and I know that some of you want this experience pretty badly. However, it is a small cast (five females, 2 males) and I have to be in the best interest of the best possible show. I have told many of you a number of times, "It's never personal. "

zo you vant to larn cherman?
http://storywrite.com/story/41200
i found this article written by an american who apparently lives in germany... just a few grammar rules and pronunciation things. also, i read in an article that most german women sound almost british. they often study oxford english. so, basically, it's like an oxford english accent with a little bit of german influence *in the link i posted. i don't know if it would be appropriate for the show, because i don't know if the whole oxford thing is period...

German Phonetics
I found a cool site http://www.uiowa.edu/~acadtech/phonetics/# Its for the acctual German language, but gives a lot of help on certain sounds with video of the inside of the mouth and a person saying the syllable. When you get to the site you click on the German flag. The pop up will all be in German, but if you click on some of the tags you will see familar letters (and some unfamiliar!) and you can get the pronounciations if you click on them.

Auditions for KINDERTRANSPORT
Auditions for the Fall One-Act Play, Kindertransport, will take place on Monday, September 25, at 4:20 in the auditorium. Please do not be late. I am only doing one night of auditions because work will have to begin ASAP! Think about English and German accents if you want to try it because they will be necessary if cast.
CALLBACKS !
soooo
considering how I already was aware that Hill was probably in the middle of teaching today, I decided to call after callbacks were posted and tell him I got one for "Doubt" at 7.30pm tonight (Sister James), and one for 12th Night (because i just lost the correct spelling)... at 8.30pm tomorrow night for the part of (Fool).
urhm.
it would be wonderful for some actual Patriot Players to respond more often to these blogs, considering it's a groovy way of keeping in touch with you all.. you know... since i'm not there anymore?
-jeez. you guys REALLY reek.

So Hill...
one of my audition pieces is Viola's ring speech
and the other is basically about this girl who cuts herself and she's telling the virgin Mary and Jesus how she does it.
i was thinking before i leave on the 13th, maybe we can meet up at starbucks or I could come up to the school when you're not busy and perform it for you...you know me, never trying to miss out on some instruction. : ]
