Just a quick thing that I think everybody should check out.. In one of my classes here at GHP, we are reading Anne Bogart's book "The Viewpoints Book". It is about viewpoints (duh, right?), but in one class of doing her exercises I've already learned so much. I hope to tell you guys more about it later, but I've got rehearsal at 7 so I'll talk to you soon! CHECK IT OUT. It's so worth any time you have. All my love,
Abby

Thank you for the post. I hope everything is going well. I am glad that you are learning stuff and getting good training and all that. How is the improv going?
I am learning so much. Now when I think of a character, I think of some much more than I used to. It's crazy and I'm having so much fun. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to come here and helping me, it's truly an amazing experience.
Improv night for my group was Tuesday night and it went extremely well. The auditorium was packed out. In fact, we couldn't allow a lot of people to come because we didn't have enough room. I'm making a list of all of the games that we have been playing. I feel like I am so much better at improv now. It's great fun.
About viewpoints.. We are broken up into groups of ten and we go through the cycles of classes every three days. (So it's Justin's class aka set design then Karrie's class aka Movement, Chekhov, Stanislavski, and Anne Bogart and then Amy's class which is audition, improv, and Shakespeare) TodayI had Karrie's class and it was absolutely amazing. The viewpoints are basically: architecture, gestures, tempo, spacial relationships, duration, kinesthetic response, and shape. (Or those are the main ones we are studying right now.) And..(I'm sorry if I'm ranting) it's just so amazing because I never knew I could manipulate a character so much without even talking.
For example: One of the exercises is called 12-6-4. Your group gets in a circle and every movement that you make has to have "group consent" which is basically when the group has to move together (begin and end at one instant). The group runs in place together, turns to the right, and then then runs in a circle to the right. After the group beings running in a circle, they have to make 12 changes in direction, 6 jumps, and 4 stops all at the same instant. It's all about "extraordinary listening" which is communicating with your fellow actors and really feeling their energy. The first time we did the exercise, it took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes. (We were so sore after running for that long without stopping.) Today it took us 20 minutes. It sounds strange, I know. But it really works and now I feel so much closer and like..in tune with myself, my energy, and then energy of everyone else around me.
Sorry for all of that. I just am so excited and obsessed with what I'm learning :). Talk to you guys soon! Love you!
PS. Thanks again, Co' Hill.
You said it yourself, " I am just so excited and obsessed with what I am learning."
This should answer every question you have ever had about whether you are GOING to do this.......at the next level.
Hill
P.S.
Keep ranting. You're teaching me too, ya know?
